Troubleshooting SterJo Firefox Passwords: Common Issues and Fixes

Step-by-step: Exporting Firefox Passwords with SterJo Passwords

Before you start — quick notes

  • SterJo Firefox Passwords reads the local Firefox profile and can display saved logins when decryption is possible. It runs offline and offers export to HTML or KeePass-compatible CSV.
  • For moving passwords between browsers, Firefox itself can export to CSV (about:logins → menu → Export Logins). Use that when possible; SterJo is an alternative when Firefox UI can’t access or display logins.

Steps (assume Windows, current logged-in user)

  1. Download SterJo Firefox Passwords from SterJo Software’s site and unzip/install the portable EXE (no installer required).
  2. Close Firefox (to avoid file locks).
  3. Run SterJo Firefox Passwords as your Windows user (no admin required for your profile).
  4. Let the tool scan — it searches the currently logged-in user’s Firefox profiles and attempts to decrypt stored credentials.
  5. Review the displayed list (URL, username, password, created/modified/last used timestamps).
  6. Select the entries you want to export (or choose all).
  7. Click Export and choose format: HTML or KeePass-compatible CSV.
  8. Pick a secure location and filename; save the file.
  9. Immediately secure or delete the exported file (it will contain readable passwords). If moving into a password manager, import the CSV per that manager’s instructions.
  10. Reopen Firefox.

Troubleshooting / cautions

  • If entries are blank, the tool may not support your Firefox build/profile (64-bit profile issues were noted); try pointing SterJo to a specific profile folder if available.
  • If Firefox uses a Primary/Master password or OS authentication, you may need to unlock the profile first.
  • Exported files are plaintext-readable — store them securely and delete them when done.
